Amtrak 21-421 Texas Eagle – Superliner Sleeper Car Bedroom C

In Chicago we boarded the Texas Eagle. While we were in Chicago we checked our largest bag through to our final destination in Tucson, AZ. This train was our home for the majority of our 80 hour journey by train.
The Texas Eagle using Superliner cars has less vertical and window space than the Viewliner car.

We had a sink and mirrors. We had the same wide bench design.
The lower ceiling height resulted in significantly reduced storage space. There was no storage over the hallway nor any storage over the bathroom unit.
We still have the extra bunk.
We also have a spare chair, same as before, though we were not able to fold it / hide it.
Again we had a private shower and toilet. We were not sure how good the shower experience would be and therefore avoided it. Once we tried it, we regretted not having tried it earlier. While a little on the small side it was warm and the pressure was decent as well.
As far as accommodations go the bed and seat were comfortable. Not fantastic, but good enough that we got good sleep and were comfortable sitting and reading.
We found that sleeping perpendicular to direction of travel was better than being in the same direction when we traveled via roomette.
On the Texas Eagle we had a full dining car and thus had no issues with any of our meals. Some dishes were better than others, and we probably over ate. Also, it should be noted that the tables in the dining car seat four adults. If your party is under four you will most likely be seated with another passenger. Some people may not enjoy this. But we enjoyed having conversations with other passengers, where they were from, where they are going, and why they chose the train.

We found the trip extremely comfortable and relaxing.
