The first of the three railway museums we visited. This one may have been the smallest by number of cars and locomotives.
It was also the best one in terms of interactive learning exhibits for kids. Kind of reminded me of Madatech, Israel National Museum of Science in terms of demonstration of physical principals on which railroads operate.
Size comparison: One Holly, one steam engine driving wheel.
Little trains for kids to ride in:
There was an observation deck for watching shinkansen trains go by. Lots of trains going by in each direction, a rather well traveled section of track.
Using burst photography you can get the train passing.
I thought this display of friction was brilliant. The kids pulled themselves up the slope on a flat bottomed seat, a wheeled seat, and a wheeled seat on rails to demonstrate friction.
A model railroad display:
The railway museums frequently have space underneath some of the locomotives so that you can view the mechanical systems that are underneath.
