Iceland - October 2021

My brother-in-law and his wife got married in Iceland. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Part of the reason this is that at the time Iceland had strict vaccine and testing requirements that made for a much less risky travel experience.

Also, the bride particularly likes Icelandic horses due to their unique gait.

Missing from the photos are the visits to Blue Lagoon and our "soggy pony ride" where we rode Icelandic horses on a very rainy day. Lastly, I did not take any photos on the night we were at the hotel for the wedding where we had a hot tub, scotch, and views of the Northern Lights.

Iceland - Northern Lights Tour

Our group rented a bus to take a tour of the Northern Lights. We went a ways outside Reykjavik to get away from light pollution and set up in a spot where the Northern Lights were visible.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM @ 10 mm and f/3.5 and ISO 1600 with 10 second exposure.

The Northern Light, unless particularly bright, do not show up well to the naked eye. To get good photos ideally you want a very wide angle lens with a very wide aperture. Also, you use long exposures to take the photos. Part of what shows up well is the prolonged exposure capturing the movements of the lights.

Iceland - Reykjavik Whale Safari

We took a whale watching trip with Whale Safari out into the Reykjavik harbor.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM @ 70 mm and f/3.5 and ISO 100 with 1/400 second exposure.

This is by far some of the more challenging photography I have dealt with. Having faster glass with faster auto focus would have made this a lot easier. The whales are not very frequently visible.

Iceland - Hakid - Thingvellir National Park

One of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen is Hakid in the Thingvellir National Park. It is located where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM @ 22 mm and f/4.5 and ISO 100 with 1/10 second exposure.

Iceland - Geysir Strokkur

Geysir Strokkur is a rather consistent geyser that we went and visited.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM @ 17 mm and f/9 and ISO 100 with 1/100 second exposure.

Iceland - Bru Horse Farm

Had a brief stop at Bru Horse Farm to see some horses.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM @ 22 mm and f/9 and ISO 100 with 1/40 second exposure.
